SO META
WHY_DIDNT_RILEY_GO_INTO_SPRITING.JPG
A WIP of some spriting practice. I’m going to make a full scene of all ym characters in a sprite art piece!
Now I’ve got my style down for Askaraan, I’m starting the first proper piece of art for it.
There’s 5 characters here. I have a sixth to put in the upper right with the main antagonist will be in the middle, up top.
This’ll be a comic in the next year for sure.
Riley Vace
In his official canon, the world of Askaraan, Riley is a 20 year old dude growing up in Valenta. A small village that is out of the jurisdiction of the Celestial Order (the main government of Askaraan). It is a tradition in Valenta for the sons to try and train to become Celstial Order recruits. Riley, however didn’t agree with how the exams are taken. He was failed in his assessment and returned home to become his father’s apprentice in the family Blacksmith shop.
Riley eventually comes across a strange piece of metal on his merchant trip to a big city, Croil. This piece of metal turns out to be a Runic Avatar, a weapon that has been forgotten over time. Riley learns that his family, the Vace blood line can weild this weapon and all its secrets.
Out of official canon, Riley is my user name, my poster child and I insert him into a lot of styles and things unrelated to Askaraan. Expect him to cameo in any animations/games etc I ever create.
Keiji Alexi
Riley’s best friend through out childhood, who successfully got accepted into the Celestial Order. He grew up as a Hunter like his father in Valenta, and uses Katana like swords. He also can wield daggers and is very adept at hand to hand combat.
He is saddened that he and Riley will part when he goes to Croil to study as a Celestial Knight.
Anoxia Balvur
Celestial Order Captain. Without spoiling the plot of Askaraan, Anoxia is assigned to track down Riley when he goes rogue and starts attacking members of the Celestial Order. Riley, unfortunately holds back against her as he has a strange crush on her, but maybe the feelings are mutual?
She is honed in using staves and is a very powerful Fire Mage.
She is what is known as a ‘Blessed Celestial Knight’. Some have said they have witnessed wings when she is in a deep battle.
Colesk Vace
Riley’s sister, a Celestial Agent. Celestial Agents are the FBI or the Celestial Order.
Hidden, secretive and always viewed as vagrant lawless agents that don’t think twice about doing underhanded deeds to get their assignments done.
That is, to the people in the know. To the public, they are only known as secret agents that protect information. She and Rok, her brother are also assigned to ‘deal’ with Riley.
She uses special Celestial Gauntlets and Boots to fight with.
Rok Vace
Not much is known about Rok, not even to Riley. He left Valenta when Riley was only 5 and their parents rarely speak of him. He appears to be a Combination Mage, capable of using Fire and Air type magic. This results in powerful Electricty spells and techniques, that Riley feels the full force of in a brawl.
Lune
A mysterious stranger that appears at [DATA EXPUNGED] when Riley and Keiji are fighting [DATA EXPUNGED].
Able to use high level Air magic and appears to have some kind of additional space/time powers that aren’t even known of in Askaraan. Wears a Gold and Silver mask, and never takes it off.
He rarely speaks and has a broken voice box, and his voice is like a scratchy gurgle.
General Fulchor
Pronounced [FULL-KOR]. The head knight of the Celestial Order. Seems to have a keen interest in Riley at first, but he is actually after the Runic Avatar. He appears at all the locations that Riley travels to find more pieces of the Runic Avatar, though doesn’t actually attack Riley until all pieces have been collected. A manipulative and evil seeming person who’s malice shocks even his troops. Which is strange, considering he’s part of the Celestial Order.
Tyrael Vace
A platinum haired warrior spoken of in Riley’s family legends and in stories from Valenta who supposedly vanquished 12 dragons by himself using an unknown power.
Long dead for over 550 years, one legend even tells of a Soul Shrine dedicated to Tyrael and his heroic actions…. Though that’s just a load of fairy tales, right?
Tyral Vace
Riley’s body hosting Tyrael. There are 3 stages of Tyrael’s effect.
Stage 1 is most commonly seen, with Riley’s hair, skin tone and combat stance all alter and he gains horns and a scaly, green left.
Capable of casting runes onto his left arm, and maintain combat with the runic avatar on his right. Though he is only able to cast the same amount of runes as normal, so he must spread them between the Avatar and Tyrael’s arm.
Tyrael is quoted saying “Urgh. Please, don’t say TY-RAY-ELL. It’s ridiculous, no one spoken like that for years and years. Just say TIE-RALL. It’s more modern, edgier.”
If Riley casts Rune Control, Blood Pact and Pain Amp onto his left arm in this form, it is devastating.
NOTES ABOUT RUNIC AVATAR:
Riley can cast 3 runes onto the Runic Avatar when he discovers [DATA EXPUNGED]. AS more piece are collected, the space for more runes becomes available. One rune has to be Runic Control. Riley’s most common runes are Pain Amp and Blood Pact. Here is a list of Runes and their effects:
Runic Control - Required to cast runes into a viable object. Only Mythicium is known to be Rune compatible. The amoutn of rune slots cast is dependant on the mass of the source.
Pain Amplification - Whatever pain is dealt by the Rune’s source is amplified by the amount of pain Riley has received.
Blood Pact - Whenever blood is drawn by the Rune’s source, it links to the next rune.
Vortex - Air Magic rune, causes additional Air effects. (Examples below)
Pyro - Fire Magic rune, causes additional fire effects.
Explosive Force - A huge force of energy is released at the point of contact of the Rune’s source.
Reflective Force - Causes the Rune’s source to have additional repelling force when it makes contact. Good for knocking enemies back. Can also be used to run and jump faster if the Runic avatar is forged into Boots. Best used when the Runic Avatar is forged into a Shield.
Magnetism - Causes things to be drawn to the Rune’s source. A useless rune by itself but used in combinations is very handy.
EXAMPLES:
Blood Pact + Reflective Force : When the Rune’s source draws blood, it launches the source of blood away with great force. Cut and arm? BOOM that arm will go flying, along with it’s owner.
Magnetism + Vortex: Creates a powerful Air vacuum that draw all enemies toward the Rune’s source. Riley uses this on the fly, along with Reflective Force + Pyro. It resulted in enemies being sucked toward Riley then, when Reflective Force and Pyro were activated, created a powerful Fire element shockwave repelling all enemies outward again.
Blood Pact + Pain Amp: A useful combo. Whenever the Rune’s source draws blood, it multiplies the pain ten fold. Usually incapacitates a foe, helping Riley escape sticky situations.
Reflective Force + Explosive Force: Massive explosive attack that is useful for penetrating armor.
Explosive Force + Elemental Rune: Massive elemental blast attacks.
