MWAHAHAHAHAHA

Travis bought SVC: Monster World Collection on Xbox

And I’ve been playing through them all because I had Monster World 3 back as a kid. Playing Monster World IV though, is now my favourite.
Asha is a great little cute sprite of a character and the Pepe you get to accompany makes the game a little different to other Genesis platformers of its age!

Expect some Monster World IV fan art soon! Pepe is just too cute!
Also, i may do some Monster World 2 and 3 fan art too! Wonder boy was Adventure Island I believe? I can’t rememebr but I think they’re related!

I’m a bit peeved I can’t go back to the Earth temple once I’ve beaten the boss though, I missed a chest and thought I could go back to grab it. I’ll be pissed if they were Life Drops in that chest. I want max health because I’m obsessive about completion in adventure/rpg games.

EVERY ZELDA I’VE PLAYED I HAVE ALL HEART PIECES, CONTAINERS, ITEMS, COLLECTIBLES, AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU CAN GET.

Riley Reviews 002: Skullgirls

Okay as I’m not a huge ass, I always try something out before completely dismissing it.
I downloaded and tried out the trial version of the game to see what so many people are getting hyped for.
So here are my first impressions.

 A
s far as the gameplay is concerned, I’m obviously in fighting game mode.
The system is pretty much what I expected, it’s like a hybrid of classic Capcom/SNK 2d fighters mixed with some newer school elements like chain attacks, launchers and the sort.
In the demo I only had access to Filia and Cerebella (not including Parasoul used in the Tutorials). I liked those tutorials by the way, very good for entry level players especially. Teaching about High/low mixups off the bat is a good move if you ask me. If that was Mike Z’s input I wouldn’t be surprised so kudos to that!

Onto the training mode though!  So it’s got the modern day standard 6 button game play, LP,MP,HP,LK,MK,HK which i actually prefer over 4 button layout games.
I have to say the way attacks chain togetehr is very reminiscent to Vs games, and especially as I’ve been playing it recently SFxT. Though it is FAR more forgiving and less tight than that, thankfully.
Just using Filia for 10 minutes I whipped up a combo which hit for around 600 damage (About 25%) without super. So I guess they weren’t really lying about custom combos.
If I recall correctly, it was along the lines of j.MP, c.LK, c.LK, c.MK, HP, j.MP, j.HK, c.LK, c.MK, forward + HK.
You can also change it up and cancel the last part to her Sonic the Hedgehog roll if you like, and then possibly super for a slight damage bump.

In this regard I enjoyed the game already. I had played for 10 minutes and created a bread and butter that worked and I had down 9/10 times.
I messed about some more and figured out some nice little air combos, and you can cancel it into her Metamorphosis super mid air too, which is nice. Which leads to wall bounce and a small follow up combo (c.LK, c.MK, c.HK was what I was going to, probably going to see more in the future no doubt).

So there you have it, I played for a good 45 minutes just in training mode with Filia and I liked it. but I didn’t feel like I could really get into it. Filia seemed a bit one dimensional after a while. Maybe playing some more may change that and some actual matches against people and seeing what the other characters are like match up wise would be good. I didn’t use Cerebella past the tutorial and she seemed like a slower, more thought out paced character. Hit stun, throws, setups etc. so I didn’t really try her as I’m none too keen on that. Pixie, rush down, offensive style is my bag. Hence why I sue Cody and Ibuki on SSF4AE and why I use Zero in the Marvel games.

So my overall opinion? I won’t get the game… yet at least.
I’m still playing SSF4AE almost every day and now SFxT has had some online issues fixed and I can actually play some games now (The sound bug was SO distracting for me) has made me play that a bit more.
I cna see now why people were hyped. There’s obviously a lot of love gone into this game. But is there a quarter for it in the modern FGC? I’m not 100% sure there is. There will be small niche fans that enjoy this classic game play still, hell, I did!
But the thing is the fighting scene was revived by SF4 a few years back now and it’s spawned numerous remakes, new fighting games and lots of sequels and new versions of games and you can’t deny the more popular fighting games are definitely the most casual out the lot. SSF4’s ease of input and ambiguous commands interpretations (Down forward x2 + punch = Dragon punch??).

As for the graphics. You can’t fault them! Completely hand drawn? Cool. I’m not a big fan of the art style for a fighting game, though I do like it as a stand alone example. Gives off an original Cartoony slash Scott Pilgrim feel. It’s smooth and fluid in the animations which is great but I have to say it lost some dazzle in full def HD. Saw some jaggies and such but it’s a minor detail.

Oh, having hotboxes shown in training is a great option too! Helps character specific stuff.

I’m more worried this project is going to go unnoticed of feel boring the the modern demographic. As much as that doesn’t really matter to the avid hardcore fans of this sub genre of fighters, it matters to sales, developers and having it readily available to everyone. Less interest from the mass majority = less exposure and a dwindled experience. Just take SF3 as a warning on that. It killed Capcom’s ambitions for fighting games for 10+ years.

Overall I give the game a solid 7/10 from first impressions only. GGPO will hopefully make the online netcode great, but let’s see how the developers managed to arrange the matchmaking and such. We’ll have to wait for balancing issues and see of there will be updates and patches (undoubtedly). I am eager to see where Skullgirls is in about 5-6 months. If it’s still going strong and there’s a community maybe I’ll pick it up.

Good job guys! It’s more than I expected it would be.

So I’m testing out RPG Maker VX!
I gotta get rid of those little annoying fragments I know!!

Would you play an RPG based around Frogs??
I’ve already started making event flags, for ‘GOOD FROG’ or ‘BAD FROG’. You get a choice at the start. The game’s inhabitants will treat you differently on 2 different accounts:
Whether you are GOOD or BAD and:
Whether you decide to LEAVE or STAY in Globulb Village.

It’ll be tongue in cheek comedy too. Not gonna lie, it’ll be a basic as fuck RPG. I doubt I’ll get back into using scripts for RPG maker. Maybe if it gets enough interest then…. but shush. Don’t wanna ruin the work I’ve done so far with optimism or negativity of any kind!
